Prince Harry

I could not possibly care less about the fact that Prince Harry is not going to join his country’s combat troops in Iraq. The fact that this is getting serious news treatment on all the evening news shows really proves the banality of our public dialogue these days.

We do not like in a land of fairy tale castles, and Prince Harry means nothing to me. There’s a war going on, and global warming, and other real stories to talk about. Journalists: in 2007 there is no such thing as a “slow news day”, so please cut the crap.

As for Prince Harry himself, he can sit on his thumb and spin for all I care.

But isn’t the point similar to - why aren’t the Bush twins enlisting to fight in a war their father calls essential for the survival of America? Why isn’t Cheney’s daughter going?

Or why should anyone’s son or daughter fight for the survival of our nation, if our leaders and their children won’t? At least Harry’s willing to give it a go. And FYI, the land of fairly tale castles is a nicer place.

I see your point, Stokey. Maybe I am just incredulous that the evening news shows I watch treated this as such a major story.

You may not ‘care’ or even like any stories about Britains Prince Harry, fairy tale castles and the rest but I’ll bet you had a thought or two about President Kennedy being shot and the demise of the Americam Camelot? You’re a master of hypocrisy if you deny that. Try a little lateral thinking, or even joined up thinking. The Brits did and came up with wwwimharry.com - invoked the spirit of the fiction of Spartacus and showed a defiance and bravery lost on those that view real life from a porch. I’m Spartacus, I’m Harry, We’re ALL Harry. And the web is helping spread the word that if everyone is Harry then no-one is more valuable than anyone else. Maybe you should watch better TV. algy

Fair enough, Algy. Just for the record, though, I am pretty sick of all the Kennedy hype too.
