Bill -- I don't know if it would be the United Nations, since they have never played this kind of role very well. It would have to be an international coalition like the United Nations. BTW, interestingly, when the UN recognized the existence of Israel in 1948, they specifically *did* mandate that Jerusalem must be an international city. Jerusalem did not become part of Israel until 1967 after the Six Day War.

Ok, you have good points. This "international overseeing force" you speak of, would that be the United Nations? The UN were the ones who re-established the Jewish nation, against the wishes of the Arabs, in 1948. Sometimes I wonder if the UN was trying to "play god" but I don't know. I'm just throwing out statements and questions - I don't know what my point is.

I see your point, Bill, but I don't think this holds true. Iraq is a large nation, Jerusalem a small city. But the main difference is that Jerusalem is already at the center of a 50+ year series of wars. There was political stability in Iraq before George Bush got his bright idea to invade the country ... I think it's an understatement to say that Jerusalem remains the core of instability for the entire Middle East. That's how I see it, anyway.

Isn't that what we're sort of doing in Iraq? I'm just asking.
