BTW, interestingly, when the UN recognized the existence of Israel in 1948, they specifically *did* mandate that Jerusalem must be an international city. This "international overseeing force" you speak of, would that be the United Nations? The UN were the ones who re-established the Jewish nation, against the wishes of the Arabs, in 1948. Iraq is a large nation, Jerusalem a small city. But the main difference is that Jerusalem is already at the center of a 50+ year series of wars. There was political stability in Iraq before George Bush got his bright idea to invade the country ... I think it's an understatement to say that Jerusalem remains the core of instability for the entire Middle East. That's how I see it, anyway.
